Firefox 87.0 new SmartBlock tracker blocking mechanism

Posted on March 24, 2021

The final version of Firefox 87.0 has been released. The browser has a new smart mechanism for blocking trackers SmartBlock. It provides backup scripts to properly load sites and solves the problems of incorrect web sites in private browsing mode arising from blocking external scripts. In addition, SmartBlock improves performance and speeds up website loading.

Previously (left), the website tiny.cloud had poor loading performance in Private Browsing windows in Firefox because of an incompatibility with strong Tracking Protection. With SmartBlock (right), the website loads properly again, while you are still fully protected from trackers found on the page.

To further protect your privacy, our new default HTTP Referrer policy will trim path and query string information from referrer headers to prevent sites from accidentally leaking sensitive user data.

The Select All feature on the Find on Page page displays scrolling labels that match the matches found on that page.

Added full support for the built-in macOS VoiceOver screen reader.

Removed items from the Library menu that were rarely used: Synchronized Tabs, Recent Bookmarks, and Pocket List.

The web developer menu has been greatly simplified.

Traditionally for the new release, in Firefox 87.0 the developers have fixed 12 bugs and vulnerabilities.
